Drilling Sky Lake

Florida, Sky Lake

The state of Florida is known for many things. Oranges and great beaches are what people from out of state think of first, but people who live in the state of Florida might be quick to mention the sweltering heat and the thick humidity that they have to deal with on a daily basis. This means that throughout the year Florida is saturated with a large amount of moisture in the atmosphere, and all of this moisture does not always make it easy for professionals to perform geotechnical drilling. Sky Lake residents might not see how extra moisture causes problems for drilling equipment and drilling tasks in general, but it can be problematic.

The Amount of Water in the Ground

While humidity is about the amount of moisture that is in the air at any given time, it is a good indicator that Florida has lots of water. Most people are quick to think of ocean water, canals, rivers, and lakes as the source of water for Florida, but Florida also has a large amount of Groundwater that can cause problems for professionals performing geotechnical drilling. Sky Lake residents might not realize how hard it is for drills to go through water or waterlogged sediments because they imagine that drills can go through anything, but this is not always the case and can make a simple job take much longer than it should.

Groundwater May Cause Sinkholes

Groundwater may seem like a harmless thing to deal with for people who do not live in the State of Florida, but Floridian residents know that groundwater is a major cause for sinkholes. When groundwater recedes or dries up, it can erode some sediments that are found underground. When enough sediment is removed, giant fissures can form and with enough weight they can collapse causing sinkholes. This is a huge concern for professionals that specialize in geotechnical drilling. Sky Lake drilling professionals might use ground water and moisture to test a location for sinkhole activity, as they also may be asked to perform sinkhole remediation with their drilling equipment.
